How Powderpuff & Powderbuff Gives Students a Fun Opportunity
Homecoming is a week full of activities, themes, and fun events. But there's one event that is unique from the rest. Powderpuff and Powderbuff allow students to compete in sports that OHS doesn’t have to offer.
Powderbuff gives boys the opportunity to play volleyball which starts as a tournament on Monday and Wednesday and wraps up with the winning student team taking on the teachers at Friday’s pep assembly.
“It was a great experience and fun to get up and play volleyball in front of all your friends and peers,” OHS sophomore and Icy Pops team member Sabastian Soumphonphakdy said.
For the second straight year, the sophomore team The Icy Pops played in the pep rally but fell to the teachers by three points.
“It was a little unfair, we were going up against Mr.Adamatis who is a professional volleyball player, " Sabastian said.
While powderbuff gives the boys a fun opportunity, powerpuff gives the girls the opportunity to play football. The seniors and juniors play each other while being coached by the varsity football players. The powderpuff game is not sponsored by OHS and took place off campus after the pep rally on Friday.
“The fact every single person on the team was being hyped up by people who they weren’t even friends with was my favorite part, the whole thing just felt incredibly supportive,” an anonymous senior said.
Despite the foul weather, the powderpuff game went on in the pouring rain and cold. The game ended with the seniors defeating the juniors by just two points.
“Celebrating with the other seniors was so fun. It just added onto the community feeling,” says the senior.
Powderpuff was the final event before Friday’s football game. Even though the event isn’t sponsored by the high school it was still a great opportunity to bring students together for the celebration of homecoming.
