Luke Marx, The Voice of OHS Basketball

OCA media has been a big part of Oregon sports over the years. OCA broadcasts games such as football, basketball, hockey, and soccer. One of the voices behind OCA media is OHS student Luke Marx. 

Luke started working as a sports announcer in the fall of 2021, working both girls' and boys' basketball games. 

“I saw a hiring announcers flier and talked to my current boss Paul Zwicker and I got hired,” Luke said. 

Luke was then hired on the spot and got to call his first game in November of 2021.

“It was November 23rd, JV girls basketball VS Monona Grove,” Luke said.

It turns out that Luke didn’t always want to be a sports broadcaster, but his love for sports has always connected him to it.

“You know I didn't know that I genuinely wanted to be an announcer till a few weeks before I started, but I’ve always had a knack for it,” Luke said.

Luke has now been calling Oregon basketball games for two seasons and it is clear to see that he is enjoying it. 

“I really just like the quick pace and non-stop action back and forth. I think the only other sports you get that with are hockey and soccer,” Luke said.

Luke was on the call when senior Evan Miles hit a buzzer-beater half-court shot to beat Mt. Horeb. Luke’s call was heard all over social media and seen on Sportscenter by over 3 million people. 

“It’s just a really surreal moment and I shared that moment with Evan cause we were together when we found out so it has just been a blessing for me ever since,” Luke said.

Luke now plans to go into sports broadcasting after high school. His dream is to become a famous broadcaster and be on the call for big games.

“I think I gotta say super bowl. But if I am being realistic calling a march madness game would be right up there,” Luke said. 

After high school, Luke is determined to carry on with his broadcasting career and to continue to surround himself with sports. Over the last two winter sports seasons, Luke has given the Oregon community many memorable moments.
