5th/6th Community Day
with Miss Zoe
We will be doing a small amount of writing in class this week as we work on comprehension while reading our novel. Students will have the option to hand write, type or use voice to text. If you know that technology helps support your student with writing, please have them bring their (charged) Chromebook to class. I will have some available but I don't think we have a full class set. Let me know if you have questions about this!
Further info about Chromebooks: I give students the choice whether to write, type or use voice to text. If you would prefer your student to hand write and not use a Chromebook, let me know! There are some activities where Chromebooks are needed but for writing I have hard copy options.
Meet the Teacher
The Basics: Hi, I’m Zoe Kingsbury and this will be my second year teaching 5th/6th grade at Oregon Family School. I’m so excited to work with you and your students this school year. I will also be coordinating Oregon Battle of the Books alongside Donese Pogue.
My Experience and Education: I earned my BA with honors at UC Berkeley in 2013 as painting major. I earned my M.Ed and Multiple Subject credential at UC Santa Barbara’s Teacher Education Program in 2018. My M.Ed. Inquiry focused on students using drawing to support understanding and communication in the classroom. I also hold an English Learner Authorization as well as a Specific Subject Authorization in Fine Art.
My Teaching Philosophy: The first objective I have at the start of a school year is to facilitate a classroom where every student feels safe, valued and supported. My second objective is to create lessons that students feel challenged by and engaged with. I love implementing art and hands on learning as much as possible, but most of all I believe in listening to my students, sharing in compassionate dialogue with them, and teaching in a way that best supports their unique needs and personalities.
