Honors World History (Grade 9) 1 Credit
Prerequisite: Teacher Recommendation
While the content of this course is the same as the college prep course, additional time will be spent teaching the students the skills of critical analysis used by historians. Students who select this course will be expected to read well and write well. There will be an emphasis on class discussion. The reading load will be heavy and students will be expected to keep up with the work. Students will be expected to purchase supplemental materials. This course will trace the major turning points in the modern world from the 18th century to the present. Specific topics will include: the Scientific Revolution, Enlightenment, the Age of Political and Economic Revolutions, the Rise of Nationalism, Imperialism, World War I, the Rise of Totalitarianism, World War II and the Holocaust, and the Cold War. Contemporary world issues such as decolonization, globalization, terrorism, and world cultures will be included in our analysis of world conflict and cooperation. The academic expectations will be geared toward highly motivated students.
