English IV Honors (Grade 12) 1 Credit
Prerequisite: English III Honors
English IV Honors (Semester 1) is an enriched college preparatory course stressing in-depth critical analyses, written and oral, of novels, drama, non-fiction and poetry. The first portion of the course includes the study of several works based on theme of finding one’s strengths. Another unit focuses on a study of tragedy and tragic heroes. Major emphasis is placed on narrative and reflective writing, especially with the college essay in mind. Semester 2 focuses on analysis of modern works of fiction and nonfiction. Students will use 21st Century Skills to present information to others. Another aspect of this course is a research paper in which students use data and write persuasively.
