College Preparatory English emphasizes literature, composition, and language. Literature includes study by types such as short story, fiction, nonfiction, drama and poetry; both classics and modern selections are studied. Expository writing stresses types and methods of paragraph development, and the five-paragraph composition is introduced. Vocabulary and grammar are taught to help students write and communicate more effectively. Students will write narrative, informative, and persuasive pieces. In addition, the formal research process is introduced and students will create a research project based upon their own inquiry.
