Creative Writing (All grades) 1/2 Credit
Prerequisite: None
In this course we will begin by exploring the components of fiction necessary for successful short-story writing, and will utilize varying exercises with setting, character, dialogue, conflict and narrative structure. We also will be extensively work-shopping your writing in class. At the conclusion of this unit, each student will have written a short story that will be “published” and anthologized. Moreover, we will also involve ourselves in a comprehensive poetry unit, where the student will be led through a series of exercises that will bring out the inner-poet in them. The poetry unit will conclude with a poetry/jazz café where the student will be reading their poems. Throughout the entirety of the course, the student will be required to keep a journal.
