Required Fluencies

Did you know that each grade level has required fluencies according to

Ohio's Revised Math Standards?

Kindergarten Required Fluencies

By the end of Kindergarten students are required to

• know sums and differences up to 5 (must be from memory focusing on using mental strategies)

1st Grade Required Fluencies

By the end of 1st grade students are required to

• know sums and differences up to 10 (must be from memory focusing on using mental strategies)

2nd Grade Required Fluencies

By the end of 2nd grade students are required to

• know sums and differences up to 20 (sums must be from memory focusing on using mental strategies)
• be able to Add/subtract within 100 (not using an algorithm but using strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction)

3rd Grade Required Fluencies

By the end of 3rd grade students are required to

• know products and quotients of two one-digit numbers (products must be from memory, focusing on using mental strategies)
• add/subtract within 1000 (using strategies and algorithms based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction)

4th Grade Required Fluencies

By the end of 4th grade students are required to

• add/subtract within 1,000,000 (using strategies and algorithms based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction)

5th Grade Required Fluencies

By the end of 5th grade students are required to

• fluently multiply multi-digit whole numbers using a standard algorithm
