Current Season Sports Information

Here is a copy of the winter sports letter that was posted on Schoology in early October-

Orange Middle School Athletics

Andy Apple, Athletic Director

Below is the most up-to-date information for winter sports. Please read the entire letter carefully so that all requirements for participation are met. Make sure that the athletes and the parents involved have all of the information.

Winter athletics often times mean staggered practice times, which means that some practices will not be held immediately after school. Students will need to go home and then return to campus for practice often. Coaches will share this information with the kids. Students may not stay at Brady from the end of school until a late practice begins.

Please note that my website has all of the information about middle school athletics that you could want or need. The website address is –https://sites.google.com/orangecsd.org/bmsathletics/home

The site is also accessible through the Orange Schools Website, under the “Athletics” tab.

The conference we are in staggers basketball seasons for facilities reasons. So the boy’s game season begins in early November and the girl’s game season begins in January. Wrestling also shifted this year, see below for details.

Please also note that all questions about a specific sport should be directed to the coach listed. The coach is always the first line of contact.

The Orange City School District is proud to offer the following athletic programs during the winter season. Students should listen to announcements for meeting and signup information-

7th and 8th grade Wrestling- will begin in late November/Early December. An informational meeting will take place as the winter progresses. Competition does not begin until after winter break, and concludes at the end of February. No cuts-everyone makes the team. Coach Groth-dgroth@orangecsd.org

A note about forms- In order for an athlete to tryout for and compete for a team, a valid physical must be on file with the athletic department. Athletic physicals are good for one calendar year from the date of the physical. You can turn the physical in to the coach if it is not on file from a previous season. The physical MUST be on the approved OHSAA form, which is available on my website. All other required forms must be completed online by the time of the first tryout date as well. A link to the forms can be found on my website, listed above. Note that online athletic forms are different than online school forms, check to be sure you have completed both! Also please check to be sure you have “checked” the sport your child is trying out for in the forms system.

A note about behavior- Please note that being a member of an athletic team brings responsibility. Each athlete of a team will be asked to represent themselves and their school positively at all times. Behavior problems at school and at athletic contests and practice could result in exclusion from athletic teams and events.

A note about playing for non-school teams- If a student is on a team at Brady, that athlete may not participate on any other team of the same sport, during the same season, community or otherwise supported, until the Brady season is completely finished. This includes practicing with any other team. This is a rule from the OHSAA, which is our governing body. So if you play for Brady, you cannot practice or play for or with any other team of the same sport during the season.

Looking forward to a great winter season! Mr. Apple, Brady AD
