ABOUT MRS. DECONTO:

I was born and (mostly) raised in New England, which makes me a loyal Red Sox and Patriots fan! Shortly after my freshman year of high school, my family relocated to Florida where I graduated high school and attended Florida Gulf Coast University for my freshman year of college.

After my first year at FGCU, I realized I needed to gain some more life experience and direction before committing to a major. What better places to explore than Costa Rica and Colombia! I spent a total of two years abroad where I worked with children who needed some love, learned to speak Spanish, ate a whole lot of rice and beans, and learned to dance salsa! Although the food, language and dancing were perks of living abroad, the greatest treasure I brought home was a newfound love and passion for teaching.

After moving back to Durham, I earned my Associates Degree at Durham Tech and then moved on to earn my Bachelor's Degree in Middle Grades Education at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (GO TARHEELS!).

I fell in love with Gravelly during student teaching and then never left! This will be my sixth year of teaching, and I cannot wait to help my students learn to fall in love with reading!

I live in Durham with my new husband (August 3, 2019!) and our sweet dog, Ellie.
