Why Virtual-First?
Dr. Howard is moving forward with a virtual-first practice in line with many of her independent practice and integrative medicine colleagues. This approach increases accessibility while lowering practice expenses & overhead, allowing clinicians to spend more time with patients. Studies has consistently shown that the average face-to-face time for conventional primary care visits is only about 7 minutes.
Don't I need to be seen in-person for preventive care?
Routine annual physical exams and generalized testing for healthy, asymptomatic adults do not reduce illness or death.
At Cardinal Family Medicine, preventive care is a part of every visit and we practice precision-based, personalized medicine.
The American Cancer Society recommends against clinical breast exams for average-risk women.
At Cardinal Family Medicine, we assess risk for breast cancer starting at age 21, offer genetic testing for hereditary breast cancer to persons at increased risk through our parternship with Myriad Genetics, advise patients to practice breast self-awareness and recommend on-time imaging for breast cancer screening. Appropriate breast imaging may include mammogram, ultrasound and MRI.
The most current guidelines for cervical cancer screening recommend high-risk HPV testing every 5 years.
HPV self-collection is a pain-free, speculum-free method for screening and can be done at your convenience at your local LabCorp Patient Service Center.
What if I get sick urgently?
Televisits can be generally be arranged within 72 hours- often the same or next day- as well as testing (if necessary) at local lab and radiology facilities. Visiting a local urgent care is another option for non-emergency needs.
Appointment requests are available up to 45 days in advance.
If your desired appointment date is beyond the 45-day window, please note when your date will be open & return to the calendar at that time.
**Changes to Appointment Requests & Booking**
You will receive a "Your Booking is confirmed" email immediately after submitting your request.
If your appointment request is declined, the booking will be cancelled. Review the cancellation notes for next steps.
If your most recent visit was prior to 7/15/2026, you must sign Consent & Acknowledgements and complete Patient History
Pre-visit questionnaires may be required at the time of your appointment booking.
Failure to complete pre-visit tasks & questionnaires within 24 hours of booking will result in cancellation of your request.

Connect to your visit using the Join Your Televisit link on the Cardinal Family Medicine Homepage.
You will not receive a separate appointment confirmation or visit link.
If you need to change the date or time of your appointment request, please either:
Use the Reschedule link in the booking confirmation email (see below), or
Email hello@cfmny.net to cancel your pending request and submit a new request
Failure to cancel an unneeded request prevents other patients from booking the date/time for which you are no longer available.
