A-Level History

A-Level History looks around the world of countries, people and events that have shaped the world we live in today. 

In Year 12 you will complete two units;

In Search of the American Dream: the USA, c1917-96 

In Search of the American Dream looks at the quest for political, social economic advancement and the want to reform existing structures whilst India.

India, c1914-48: the road to independence 

The road to independence looks at the quest which led to more racial outcomes, bringing an end to imperial rule. 

These units are linked by the common theme of a search for rights, freedoms and greater equality during the 20th century.

In Year 13 you will study;

Rebellion and disorder under the Tudors, 1485–1603

Exploring the nature of rebellion and disorder under the Tudors and the way the various challenges were met, the nature of change in government over the period and the changing relationship between the Crown and key sections of society. 

You will also complete a piece of coursework that looks at your historical skill of analysing interpretations and building an argument relating to the significance of Martin Luther King in the American Civil Rights Movement.

Requirements for Study

Minimum APS:

• 3 A Levels - 4.5

• 2 A Levels & 1 Vocational - 4

• 1 A Level   & 2 Vocational - 3.8

Subject Specific: 

• 9-5 in History

• 9-5 in English Language or English Literature

Assessment

Paper 1 - Breadth study with interpretations - 30% of the total qualification - examination lasts 2 hours 15 minutes.

Paper 2 - Depth study - 20% of total qualification - examination lasts 1 hour 30 minutes.

Paper 3 - Themes in breadth with aspects in depth - 30% of total qualification - examination lasts 2 hours 15 minutes.

Course - 20% of the total qualification - independent-research enquiry.
