Design for 3D
3D printing gives the ability for anyone to design without prior fabrication experience, enabling them to correct mistakes early on, while saving time and money in the process. To take full advantage of what 3D printing has to offer, we've listed a few tips below.
- Assemblies can often be simplified into one part, eliminating the need for fasteners.
- Design Checklist:
- Chamfer holes at least 0.5 mm, especially those that are located at the bottom of the part.
- To reduce or eliminate support needed to print the part, add a 45 degree chamfer under overhanging features.
- When saving your .STL file, make sure the quality settings are set to high quality, or fine.
