Ways we support student learning:
Offer assistance during scheduled learning blocks or drop-in sessions for assignments and tests, focusing on students with learning needs or those who would benefit from extra support, regardless of designation.
Provide one-on-one help with assignments, motivation, teacher communication, advocacy, technology use, assignment adaptation, and fostering a positive self-image as a learner.
Collaborate with teachers and educational assistants to ensure they know which students need support and have access to IEPs.
Help students understand their learning needs from a growth mindset perspective, ensuring their voices are reflected in IEPs and learning plans.
Assess students' needs and offer Level B assessments for reading, writing, and math. Support families through the referral process and provide guidance on accessing school and community resources.
Ensure students have necessary accommodations for exams and Provincial Assessments.
Collaborate with administrators, counselors, Indigenous support staff, and others to address student needs with a team approach.
Communicate with parents, valuing their input on IEPs and supporting them in advocating for their child’s needs at school.
Monitor student progress, identify at-risk students, and problem-solve strategies to get them back on track.
Assist with transitions from elementary/middle school to Vanier and from school to the community upon graduation.
