QField is a mobile app available on iOS App Store and Android Play Store that can be used to collect data sample points whilst in the field. Once set up prior to being in the field, the app doesn’t require an internet connection and can utilise your device GPS. Points can then be added to your current location, or you can add points in differing locations by dragging the map. The app works seamlessly with QGIS and supports a wide variety of data formats.
QField can be used with any version newer than Android 5, if you are looking to get a new device, we suggest going for at least Android 9.
To download QField head to the Google Play store on your Android Device, search ‘QField’. Select ‘QField for QGIS’ from the list of options, and then the ‘Install’ Button.

After installing please click on Register an account and create a username and password using which you can login to Qfield app and access the Qfield cloud projects.

Users need to do a one time registration using the above link while they start using the Qfield app.
Username- Please keep the same username created while using the Qfield app.
Password- Keep the same password used in Qfield app login.
Password confirmation- Repeat the same above typed password.
Name- Please put your name here.
Qfield_id- For getting the Qfield id please
Open the Qfield app →Qfield settings→Go to Variables→ user_account_name( This is the Qfield id like u0_a353).
Desktop id- Please get this id from the qgis desktop if you are an Admin ( moderator) level , if a normal user please keep this as your name in this field.
Mobile number- Please enter the mobile number without country code(91).
State- Please enter the state from which you belong.
District- Please enter the district from which you belong.
Village- Please enter the village from which you belong.
Once you enter all the above fields please enter Sign up and if successfully entered you will be taken to the Homepage.
For accessing the Qfield settings,Open the Qfield App and click on the Qfield settings option avaliable on the top left hand side.
To find the Qfield id-
Open the Qfield app →Qfield settings→Go to Variables→user_account_name
(This is the Qfield id like u0_a353 as mentioned in the screenshot).
For using the form for filling the new features data please check the QfieldCloud projects →Login with credentials →Community tab section after login on to the Qfield app. The forms will be visible and once you click on the form you will be able to access it and going forward it will appear on to the My Projects action if any activity is done.
Once the project is selected you will need to update the same project whenever you open it by clicking the cloud icon mentioned above the project list as shown in below screenshot.
If the user clicks on the Cloud icon the below page will open and the user can click on the “Synchronize” option to sync the latest version of form initially while starting using the forms to add the features.
Open the Main menu and expand the layers list to display the legend of the map. By long pressing on the layer an option box will appear to Expand legend item which should be checked.
To start digitizing new features, enable the Edit mode in the main menu (pencil button) and select the layer on which you want to add a new feature (the layer will be highlighted in grey).
Navigate the crosshair in the centre of the screen to the desired start of the polygon and click the Plus (+) button at the lower right of the screen to add the first node.
Proceed with adding points to form your line or polygon by clicking the Plus (+) button each time you want to add a new node.
Click the Minus (-) button to remove the last added node.
Click the Close (X) button to cancel the feature creation completely.
When you have added at least 2 nodes for a line or 3 nodes for a polygon, a Save button will appear. Click on it to finish your sketch.
Once the user clicks the Save button (Tick mark option in green colour) the attribute form will popup and the user can start filling the corresponding details.
Once the user enters all the details through the form they need to do the tick mark(Green colour) above the form so that the form will get saved locally.
After saving the form, users need to click on the cloud icon on the main page where the layers are listed to sync or save the new addition of features onto the Qfield Cloud.
If the user clicks on the Cloud icon it will open the below page where the user can see the options “Push changes” . By clicking on Push changes , the features added by the user will be synced to the Qfield Cloud. If a user needs to revert the changes done locally, the user can click “Revert local changes ” and reset the changes or addition done on those forms.
Users can view their submitted features status (Accepted/ Rejected etc) with colour coding on the Qfield app map as mentioned below. The colour coding of each status is mentioned for reference.
After digitizing a geometry, the attribute form will be displayed if it is not suppressed and the user will be asked to enter the attributes for the new feature. The form which appears allows entering attribute values for the new feature. The checkboxes at the right of every attribute allow for remembering each attribute individually. The next time you will add a feature on the same layer, these attributes will be already pre-filled.
We have three forms CSEI crop form/ CSEI plantation form and CSEI crop plantation form and corresponding attribute forms fields are explained below.
CSEI crop form:
The General tab consist of Farmer & Plot details:
Farmer Name - This field consists of a text box where the user needs to give the farmer name.
Farmer Contact Number- Farmer Contact number to be updated with 10 digit mobile number without the country code(91).
District of Farmer- Dropdown will appear and Raichur district will be preselected in this case.
Village of Farmer- Dropdown will appear with village/block /panchayat list.
Area of Farm- This field will be auto calculated based on area you select and will be displayed in acres as units.
The Crop info Tab consists of details with:
Primary Crop name- The field will appear on the dropdown list of Crops and users can select the primary crop accordingly.
Sowing Month - Months will be displayed as drop down for updating the primary crop sowing month.
Sowing Year- Years from 2021 to 2023 will be displayed under the dropdown and users can update the primary crop sowing year.
Harvest Month - Months will be displayed as drop down for the users updating the primary crop Harvest month.
Harvest Year - Years from 2021 to 2023 will be displayed under the dropdown and users can update the primary crop harvest year.
Irrigated - This field will show the dropdown of Yes/ No and the user can select the option accordingly. If option “Yes” is selected the new field will be displayed with tab “Source of Irrigation” and If option “No” is selected it will jump to “Add current farm image”.
Source of Irrigation- This field will appear in the dropdown of the list of sources of irrigation and the user can opt the source accordingly.
Add current farm image - This field has the option to upload the image from your phone gallery or click instance picture & upload the image.
Is there Intercropping ? - This field will be displayed with an option as Yes / No. If there is intercropping all the fields related to Crop info Tab will be displayed again for adding the other crop information.
Any further details that you wish to mention - This textbox field can be used for adding any further details user can mention.
Completed- This field should be checked as Yes/ No if the user have completely filled the form.
CSEI Plantation form:
The General tab consist of Farmer & Plot details:

Land Use before conversion to plantation- This field will appear as a dropdown of options whether the land used before plantation was Agriculture/ Fallow etc.

In the Crop/ Plantation Info Tab , there is an dropdown to select whether its Crop info / plantation / fallow details is to be filled. If someone selects Crop , Crop info Tab will pop up with Crop related questions and if plantation is selected , plantation info Tab will be open up etc.

Crop name- The field will appear on the dropdown list of Crops and users can select the crops accordingly.

8. Editing the draft / filled form which is saved from the qfield app.
For editing any feature daft user can long press on the form name and it will open up few options .In the Show features list please click on down arrow which will pop up Show visible features list.
Once the user clicks on Show visible features list , it will open up the saved form submission by the corresponding user. User can make the changes accordingly on the forms filled.
