Task:

  • Design and construct a bridge prototype that will span a distance of 3 feet and hold as much weight as possible.

Essential Questions:

  • Science/Engineering: What materials are best for building bridges to withstand traffic and natural forces?
  • ELA: How can sharing ideas (collaboration) better help groups in completing tasks?
  • Mathematics: How can geometry be used to solve real world engineering problems?

Description

The Building Bridges mobile maker tub provides students the opportunity to look at the structure and function of bridges. They will use engineering practices to evaluate the materials and the design that goes into building modern bridges.

Grade Levels: K-3rd or 4th-8th

Standards:

    • Physical Science, Engineering, Reading Information, Writing, Geometry, Measurement.

Estimated 7-10, 45 minute class sessions.
