Hello from the art room!
I am Mrs. Hinderer and I will be teaching kindergarten through eighth grade art this year. This is my eighth year teaching art at Our Lady of Victory. I live in Ypsilanti, Michigan with my husband, son, four cats, a dog and a snake.
I graduated from Michigan State University with my BA in Studio Art and from Wayne State University with my MA in Teaching. Prior to becoming an art teacher I was a portrait photographer. I enjoy all forms of art and being an art teacher allows me to pass on my love of the fine arts to my fantastic students. It is my hope that OLV students will form an appreciation for the arts that they carry through their lifetime.
Below you will find information for all grades, including what the students will need for art class.

Students will be able to share materials this year! All materials will be provided in class.
Kindergarten-2nd Grade:
These grades are evaluated mostly on their effort and willingness to participate. In these grades I am looking to strengthen their fine motor skills, teach them how to follow directions and complete projects using a step-by-step process. The students will be exposed to a variety of artistic mediums such as crayon, markers, colored pencils, watercolor, tempera and cut/torn paper.
3rd Grade-5th Grade:
The third through fifth grade students will begin building on their artistic skills, learning new techniques and focusing on the Elements of Art. They will work with new materials and strengthen their skills, learning about texture, space, and form. Thinking outside the box to create original works of art is encouraged and students will also begin to self critique their work, always looking for ways to improve their skills and finished works. Many projects will be created using inspiration gained from learning about famous artists and their works, as well as children's books and cultural art.
Middle School (6-8th Grade):
Sixth Grade students will meet with me twice a week, on Tuesday and Thursday. The students in this class will be furthering their knowledge and experience with mediums such as chalk, oil pastels, and watercolors. Students will continue to learn about value and contrast through work with pencil and colored pencil. We will work with clay this year!
Seventh and Eighth Grade Art will look in depth at the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design, learning the vocabulary and techniques necessary to create and critique their own art. Students will also be exposed to a variety of artists and will critique their art as well, forming opinions on what they like and don't like, and learning to appreciate a wide range of artists. These students will see me all year long and will meet three times a week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Working with clay and other sculptural materials will also begin in these grades.
