Happy Last Week of May! Its hard to believe that we are in the last three weeks of the 2017-2018 school year. We are still working hard in 5B. Everyone is in the groove and learning new things everyday, enjoying grade five and preparing for Middle School. We're on our way to the grand finale of a wonderful school year!
In reading, the students are finishing up their Read 25 projects. Each student is working on the completion of their chosen project. They were to read 25 books and keep a collection of projects for each book. Some students are writing summaries, some are keeping a journal and some students are being very creative with their projects. We are looking forward to sharing our projects during the last week of school.
In Math we are becoming experts in Measurement. We are learning about linear, capacity and mass, temperature and time. We are beginning to solve simple algebraic equations too. Lots of fun. It takes a lot of practice and the students are working hard everyday.
In Religion, the students are learning about the Hierarchy of the Church, from the Pope, to the bishops, to the priests and deacons and the members. We are studying the precepts of the Church, assisting at Mass on Sundays and Holy Days, fasting and abstaining on appointed days, confessing your sins at least once a year, receiving Holy Communion at least once a year during Easter time and contributing to the support of the Church. In Spelling, the students are mastering words spelled with negative prefixes like, il, in, im and ir. In Grammar, we are learning all about progressive forms of verbs in the present, past and future tenses. Progressive forms of verbs show ongoing or continuous action.
We are studying the events leading to the Revolutionary War. The students have had a lot fun researching their choice of a New England , Middle and Southern Colony and presenting their ideas to the class. This week we are looking into the first battles of the Revolution. We will learn about the Battles of Lexington and Concord. The students are working on their Google Classroom assignments and preparing to present their findings to the class.
Its hard to believe that we are in the last days of the 2017-2018 school year. We have a lot to do in the last days of school. Lets keep working so hard. We can do it!
