Welcome to Music class!
Parents: Music is an important component of any elementary school education. At OLMC, classroom music is an active learning environment. Students learn how to read and write music, sing solfege, perform folk songs and dances and play classroom instruments as early as preschool. Older students continue to hone their musical skills in band, choir or handbell ensemble. Additionally, students in Junior High explore music history as part of their classroom music experience. Sixth graders study World Music, learning songs and dances from around the world. Seventh Graders study the origins of Western Music, starting with Gregorian Chant and progressing through the Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque and Classical Periods. Eighth Grade music class is a survey of our American heritage in music. A highlight for 8th grade is participating in The Hamilton Online Project.
Fifth and Sixth grade enjoyed performing for the St. Simon Stock Senior Ministry. We prepared several patriotic songs to sing and play on hand bells in honor of our veterans! Special thanks to Senior Ministry director Jenn Smith for inviting us over to perform!
First Grade learned the song "Freedom, Freedom" in music class today to help them remember the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the fourth and fifth grade music classes!
Our young musicians hard at work!

7th grade general music copied illuminated manuscripts of the Ave Maria to end their Gregorian Chant unit.
