Decreasing the Achievement Gap
In order to determine if MCSD is decreasing the achievement gap between ELs and non-ELs, the percent of students meeting and exceeding expectations was totaled for both student groups. The table below shows data for three years of PARCC Academic Performance.
The percent of ELs meeting or exceeding expectations in 2014-2015 was 6% where the percent of non-ELs meeting or exceeding expectations in 2014-2015 was 42%. The difference between the two student groups was 36%. The following year, the percent of ELs meeting or exceeding expectations was 8% where the percent of non-ELs meeting or exceeding expectations in was 41%. The difference between the two student groups for 2016-2017 was 37%. The percentage of ELs meeting or exceeding expectations is growing, however, not enough to close the achievement gap.
