To provide support for all students toward reading proficiency, the OKCPS Reading Plan outlines SIX STRATEGIC INTENTS to meet the goal of success in reading proficiency.
Desired Outcomes
Improve reading proficiency for all students, across all grade levels in OKCPS as measured by NWEA and OSTP scores.
This will be achieved through a district-wide Reading Plan, including interventions, professional growth, and access to quality reading materials, with ongoing progress monitoring.

Implement a System of Support and Interventions (MTSS)
Utilize Assessments to Monitor Students Progress
Provide Ongoing Professional Learning Around Structured Literacy

Emphasizes the need to decode to become a skilled reader over time
Explicit instruction
Words are made of individual letters, sounds, and word parts
When building word recognition, language comprehension must be addressed through oral language communication

Teachers will ensure literacy
