Volunteers are more likely to come back to a school site or project when they've previously had a positive experience volunteering. How can we ensure we're creating a positive volunteer experience?
Communication with volunteers, your team, & the Partnerships Team are key to a successful Volunteer Program at your school
Communication -
Talk to your volunteers about projects & activities your school site is hosting. Get them excited about what's on your calendar
Talk to the Partnerships Team about what your volunteer needs are - we'll post your projects on our site & in our monthly Volunteer Newsletter
At events, make sure you're greeting & directing your volunteers to where they need to go
Expectations are a necessary ingredient to creating happy, repeat volunteers
Expectations -
Let your volunteers know all that is expected of them before & during a volunteer activity (clothing, time commitment, physical activity, etc)
Set goals for volunteers with how long activities should take (set up, specific events, deadlines for creative items, etc)
Most importantly, all volunteers MUST be approved via the OKCPS Volunteer Application - tell your volunteers that they cannot engage in projects until they have an approval notice
