Advanced Ed

Advanced Education offers OFY students the opportunity to take community college courses while in high school. These courses count for both high school and college credit!

why is advanced ed important?

Students who participate in Advanced Ed and successfully complete their courses are not only more likely to go to college, they are also more to stay in college. This experience allows students to walk on a college campus, communicate with professors, and to get a preview of college life.


Advanced Ed FAQ:

-Student eligibility= teacher recommendation, 10th-12th grade level status and 2.7 overall GPA (Sierra College will take 9th graders who meet the GPA requirement)

-It allows high school students to take courses at community college and receive both high school and college credit for courses passed.

-ONE college course will double in credits for High School. eg. Spanish 401 (3 units) will cover the 2 semesters (10 credits) of our Spanish 1 foreign language requirement

-ANY course OFY does not offer is eligible to take at a CC for our students.

- OFY offers an additional support course that helps students navigate the college process, review/support students in their college course and sets college expectations.

-One to two courses can be taken a semester

-Tuition and associated fees are covered-through this program therefore FREE! (students are responsible to cover the cost of books and transportation).

-Gives a HUGE advantage for college acceptance AND gets them started on their college requirements early!

-Can take courses for welding, health, culinary and other CTE/certification programs!
