As a result of the humiliation of the Opium Wars, the Qing dynasty was losing the Mandate of Heaven. On the 1st of October, 1949, Mao Zedong toppled the Qing emperor established the Peoples Republic of China (P.R.C.). The ancient dynastic cycle of imperial China had finally come to an end. Mao was a member of the Communist Party of China, a Chinese group deeply influenced by Karl Marx.
Claiming that the Mandate of Heaven had passed to him, Mao transformed China from a Monarchy into a totalitarian state.
