CARPOOL PROCEDURES

Thank you for helping us to keep our students safe during carpool!

Parents can use any of the 3 carpool lanes to drop off students in the morning (please see diagram). There is no parking anywhere in front of the school before or after school. If you are wanting to walk into the school with your student, we ask that you park on the north side of the street. Instructors will be outside to assist students in getting into the school. The doors will open at 8:10 and students will either go to the multipurpose room for breakfast or go directly to class. Parents of PM kindergarten students will drop their students off in the lane closest to the school and students will enter through the front doors. AM kindergarten parents will line up in the lane closest to the school to pick up their students. Please never park in any neighboring parking lots; you will get towed.

For afternoon carpool, we stop the entire loading zone in front of the school, as a batch, to load the students. When you pull up in front of the school, move as close as possible to the car in front of you and make sure your carpool tag is showing and your car is in park. When the whistle is blown and STOP signs are raised for students to load cars, be alert and not on your cell phone. All carpool lanes, even the outside lane on the street, will become a LOADING ZONE. Do not move your car at all while the students are loading in the loading zone. Students will walk from the grass area in front of the school and get in their vehicles. All vehicles will remain in park until the whistle blows again and the stop signs are changed to "SLOW." All cars will then move carefully out into the street in order to make room for the incoming batch of cars. Please carefully and slowly pull out into the street watching for oncoming

cars and students in the crosswalk.

While you are waiting in your car for your turn to come into the loading zone an Odyssey employee will walk down the line and enter your carpool number into our system. This number will then go into your student's classroom notifying your student you have arrived and are waiting outside. Your student will start making their way to the doors, while you are making your way to the LOADING ZONE in front of the school to load your student. It is necessary for you to have your carpool card showing for you to pick up your student or carpool. Please follow all directions by staff who are outside assisting with carpool.

We instruct students to go straight out to carpool, not stop for drinks or the restroom, and not to get sidetracked. We ask that you also discuss with your student the importance of coming straight down to carpool. If your student does not come out while you are in the LOADING ZONE, you will need to pull out of the carpool area with your batch of cars. You will then park in front of the building across the street and walk back to the school to look for your student while staying on the sidewalk. Please gently remind your student to stay on task and go out when instructed. We have staff inside and outside the school to assist students at all times.

If you have a student who will be walking, riding a bike, or being picked up by a daycare bus, please email the front office with the name of your student and which one of these options they will be doing. Students who are walking or riding bikes can leave each day when the first batch of students is called down.

Please remember, our carpool lanes are CELL PHONE FREE ZONES. We do our best to keep your students safe and ask you to do the same. In addition, please be polite to the local businesses and do not block the entrances to their businesses – specifically Built Bar. Stay pulled to the side of the curb when waiting for your turn and do not zoom past all the cars that are patiently waiting. We can have all cars loaded after school in less than 15 minutes if you wait patiently and follow the rules. Please use common courtesy and most importantly, respect Odyssey staff. There are a lot of moving parts to carpool, but when everyone does their part, it is very quick and efficient.

Afternoon carpool ends promptly 15 minutes after school is dismissed. Students left after carpool is over will wait outside for their rides. PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO BE ON TIME. If you are late, you are preventing staff from getting to where they need to be.

Once again, please keep in mind there is a learning curve every year with carpool. It takes a couple of weeks for students, parents, and staff to be efficient. Once carpool is running efficiently we are able to empty the entire school in 15 minutes or less.
