The Counselor's Corner

Welcome to the 2018-19 school year at OCS! I've been an educator for 26 years, and I can say wholeheartedly that I am truly excited for this new school year! I am part of an amazing team of Christian educators who have prayed for your children to have an awesome year! To that end, let me tell you a little about myself and my role at OCS.

Bruce Heng and I married 29 years ago and enjoy lots of hobbies together. We are both avid lovers of the mountains and that works really well since both of our adult children live in Colorado, a great place to visit! Our son and daughter both attended OCS, PreK through 12th grade. Erick is a commercial airline pilot and Natalie is a graphic designer, both living in Denver.

I knew early in life that I wanted to be a teacher. Through the influence of many great and godly men and women, I chose education as my vocation and have never questioned God's calling on my life. I was blessed to teach middle school students for 12 years, before transitioning to the field of school counseling. My role as school counselor is a fulfilling and purposeful one and I feel richly blessed to be able to fill that role with God's provision and guidance each and every day at OCS.

What is the role of a school counselor? In short, I work in partnership with teachers and parents to support student's success throughout the school day. I provide student support in the areas of personal development, social development, educational development, and spiritual development. I come along side the classroom teacher and families to equip students with specific skills and strategies in each of these areas to support their growth and development. Whether it be friendship skills, conflict management, organization, or confidence, I hope to provide each individual student with tools and strategies that assist them in having the best school experience possible.

My office is located in the admissions suite in the upper elementary building. Please stop by any time, call or email with any question or concern. I'm looking forward to joining with you in a great year!
