OCHS People of the Month for October

Teacher - Katrina Stafford -Mrs. Stafford received multiple nominations from her peers. Their comments included: "She has gone out of her way to help others use technology in their classroom. This is across the board including math, science and health & PE. She is a go to person for all this technology and she never makes it seem like you are bothering her. She truly wants all of us to benefit from the use of great technology and the students appreciate it more than she knows. All of her help is greatly appreciated!"
Staff - Gail Johnson -Gail is a vital part of the custodial team at OCHS. She is dedicated and mission oriented. Gail likes to put an extra touch in everything she does to keep the school clean and shiny. She is a team player and will do anything to help the teachers and students create a place to learn. Her work ethic and unselfishness goes far to illustrate teamwork and a portrait of a HORNET.
Student - John Ashley - Always volunteers for all events - Great student who has volunteered at ball games selling popcorn & cotton candy for the SCA , softball team & cheerleaders. Helped with all of the planning and running of homecoming activities (pep rally, parade, halftime & dance)

Cross Country Team Information:

The teams ran short-handed at Woodberry Forest Saturday, Oct. 6 due to SATs and other commitments, but still had a good day. The girls ran strong and finished in 3rd place overall in the B-race, with Abby Eckert, Charlotte Samuels and Olivia Knights all medaling. Even though it's a tough course, Abby managed to run a new personal record and was the Orange girl to finish. It was her first time finishing as our #1 runner. Natalie Pettyjohn and Arica Conto finished the scoring for the Hornets. Jewell Henley ended up as a displacer in the race so she finished as a varsity runner for the first time this season. The boys ran in the Championship race with Ethan Pettyjohn finishing in 3rd place overall, Bobby Lee right behind him with our 9th fastest time ever run on the course. Zachary Shipe was the third fastest Hornet on the day with Ryder Rose and Elijah Suggs right on his heels. It was a new season best time for Elijah. Rodney Zummo and Thomas Bower were the other top seven runners of the day. The team's final regular season meet will be at Third Battle Battlefield in Winchester, next Saturday, Oct. 13, where the entire team will be running for new personal records.

Congratulations to the OCHS Marching Band: On Saturday, Oct. 6, the OC Marching Band attended two competitions and did very well at both. The first competition was at Goochland HS where the band won first place in class AA with one of only three superior ratings earned that day. Caption awards were also received for 1st place music and 1st place marching. The color guard and percussion both won their class and posted the highest scores at the event for each caption.

The evening competition was at Spotsylvania HS, where the band had to compete up a class in AAA. The band was still able to earn awards for 2nd place music with a score of 91 out of 100. The drumline won their class with a score of 92, as well as earning the trophy for best percussion overall at the competition. The band came in 3rd place in class AAA, two tenths of a point behind Mt. View HS. CONGRATS to the OC Marching Band!

Message from the SCA: The Student Council is sponsoring its 2nd miniature golf tournament on Saturday, October 27 (note date change) at 10:00 am, at the Boardwalk on Lake Anna. We encourage you to put together a team to join us. We had a blast at the last one--team OC (Orange Crush) was the victor. Team Who's Your Caddy is looking to take home the awards this year. The proceeds will be donated to the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society. If you can't make it, & would like to help out, we are still looking for hole sponsors. Team registration forms and Hole Sponsor forms are in the OCHS lobby at the SCA window.
