CHC 2DI.1

Mrs. Galbraith

This course explores the local, national, and global forces that have shaped Canada's national identity from the First World War to the present. Students will investigate the challenges presented by economic, social, and technological changes and explore the contributions of individuals and groups to Canadian culture and society during this period. Students will use critical-thinking and communication skills to evaluate various interpretations of the issues and events of the period and to present their own points of view.

From the year 1900 to the period after the Second World War, students will be seeing history through the eyes of someone who might have lived back then. All students are given a personal profile for the year 1900 and will live through the various aspects of Canadian society and be affected by the changes that Canada undergoes as a result of the First World War, the 1920s, the Great Depression and the Second World War.

Other topics to be covered are the years from 1960 to 2000, up to and including the social revolutions of the 1960s, the FLQ crisis, the various political accords of the 1980s and 1990s and other important Canadian issues during these years.
