St. Daniel Learning Strategies
The leaves are starting to turn, so it is time to be back at school. It is a time of transition and looking forward to new things, and it is a time to look back and reflect on what has been done.
Welcome to the Grade 5 Learning Strategies class. The beginning of the year means learning new routines, and meeting new friends. At St. Daniel the students are asked to have a pair of indoor shoes from September to June. If your child would like to have their own pencils, markers and glue they are welcome to bring those items in, just make sure they are in a container of some sort with their name clearly marked.
Lunch time will be at 12:00, with time for snacks at 10:30 and 2:15. Generally, students are allowed to eat as they need to throughout the day. I encourage students to eat healthy snacks like fruits and vegetables. Highly processed foods tend to have high sugar content which makes concentration more difficult. Students will have 20 minutes to eat their lunch, and then they will have a 40 minute outside recess from 12:00-1:00pm.
The Learning Skills we will be focusing on will be Responsibility and Independent Work. In the first week of school the class will be developing or criteria on what Responsibility and Independent Work are. Be sure to ask your student about these two Learning Skills.
As the school year goes on, please check the website for information about curriculum and current projects. This is one of the main avenues that I use to communicate with parents.
I look forward to a great year of fun and learning.
