The primary focus of the AWQ3M Photography course at Immaculata is to familiarize students with the fundamentals of Photography as a form of artistic expression. Students will learn the rules of composition and demonstrate their understanding of them by implementing them in their own photography. They will learn how to use the various functions of a digital SLR camera and will understand the correlation between shutter speed, aperture and depth of field. Students will gain skills in programs such as Adobe Photoshop Elements as well as familiarizing themselves with file types, resolution and basic computer skills. In term two, students will use their acquired knowledge to create with a purpose. They will be producing various works in which they will be asked to communicate a context and message with their photography. Throughout both terms students will produce a photographic scrapbook of all their work, as well as a google website similar to this one featuring their work. This site has examples of all the course assignments.

Students will have access to a Canon Digital SLR camera, light studio, computers, Adobe Photoshop Elements, tripods and various other provided materials. All student works will be printed on a high quality colour printer (Epson Stylus Photo R1800).

Students are asked to purchase and a 12 x 12 scrapbook that they will keep at the end of the semester.

There is a $30.00 student fee associated with the course which is used to offset the cost of ink, camera equipment, paper and other materials used for the course. The fee can be paid online through Immaculata's website.

Please rest assured that no student will ever be denied the opportunity to participate fully in any assignment or activity because of financial hardship. In such cases, there is a school fund that we can draw on.
