Oconee County Elementary is proud to host a Science Olympiad team for the third consecutive year. This year's team consists of five third graders, seven fourth graders, and eight fifth graders. Participants were selected through a rigorous screening process, which included an extensive student application and well as teacher recommendations. The team is coached by faculty members Stephanie Dickens, Keri Halleck, Debra Newman, Ashley Templeton, and Julie Tolbert, as well as parent volunteer Julie Glenn.
OCES is proud of the accomplishments of its Science Olympiad program. Last year, in only its second year of existence, the team placed 3rd overall in the Northeast Georgia RESA regional competition, advancing on to the state competition at Kennesaw State University. At the region competition, OCES had three individual 3rd place finishers, two 2nd place finishers, and three 1st place finalists. At the state competition, the Wildlife Safari team finished in second place overall out of 60+ teams.
