Mr. Groundhog Predicts the Weather

In a state that normally gets a lot of sunshine, the average weather in March consists of more rainfall than usual. March experiences an average of 12 days of rainfall, or 5 inches throughout the entire month. In addition to some rainstorms, March is also the start of what can sometimes be an intense storm season in Georgia. The average high temperature in March is 68 degrees Fahrenheit, and the low is 43 degrees Fahrenheit. We celebrate the turn of the seasons with groundhog’s weather report based on his shadow (or lack of one). At sunrise on February 2 of this year our groundhog, General Beauregard Lee saw his shadow, predicting six more weeks of winter. So, don’t get out your shorts and flip flops just yet!

This year, 2020, will be our school’s second year participating in the county math olympiad competition. Our coach will be Mrs. Drake, the same awesome coach from last year. Last year, we finished off with an amazing 2nd place in the county! In my opinion, This year we are going to win 1st place! The competition will be held at the Oconee County civic center. There will be rounds of activities and stations. After our team goes through all of the stations, there will be a test where the judges determine rankings. There will be one test for 4th grade, one for 5th grade, and one for 3rd grade. After the test, there will be the award ceremony. The questions in the test will contain lots of logic questions and reasoning. This will include individual rankings for the test, and there will be awards for the winner at each station. The last part will be giving awards to the top 3 teams of the competition. Wish the math team luck for winning the 1st place title!
