Senior Parking Intruders
by Eliana Duarte
Being a senior has its pros and cons. Pros: we get to park in the senior lot. Cons: The juniors park in the senior lot. They think it’s funny to relentlessly honk at each other to no end. At seven in the morning. Relentless honking is the ambience I never expected in my morning routine. I won't name names but several seniors are also tired of this. We are tired of seeing the juniors park their cars in the first and second rows. You’d think they would park towards the back to appear incognito. No. They make it obvious they are taking our spots.
You would also think the stickers that only seniors have access to would make the juniors park in their own lot. They have proven to not be very useful as the juniors nonchalantly park their cars in the first rows. Most of the seniors have their stickers on their car. In the rear window, placed behind the driver's side. Yet the cars who don’t- the junior cars; have no tickets or write ups on them. If announcements are made that seniors need to promptly fill out paperwork to obtain parking permission, they need to be followed through. Seniors have done so. The juniors have been told several times to park in their allotted lot. Still, more and more juniors fill the senior lot every day. If the seniors are reprimanded for not having stickers, the juniors should also be reprimanded. Maybe in the future the seniors and juniors could share the lot. Seniors in the front of the lot and the juniors towards the back. It is annoying to park in the junior lot during the winter or rainy weather. There has to be some sort of solution to the senior lot debacle.
