Ocean Succeeds in Hosting First Homecoming Dance in 8 Years
by Brandon Newman
Together, the five class advisors and the Student Council advisor hosted the first Homecoming Dance in 8 years on Thursday, September 25th. Free of charge and ready to kick off Homecoming, the night included pizza from Peel, Tramonto’s, and Slices of Hope as well as desserts provided by parents and Bellalicious. The DJ played all the hits, and the dance floor, while sweltering, was the centerpiece of the night. With glow sticks in hand, OTHS students laughed and smiled the whole night.
Students looked amazing, from suits and ties to sparkly dresses; it offered everyone in the student body an opportunity to hang out with their friends and have fun with their peers. There were a total of 350 people who attended the dance, which can be considered a huge success, with roughly 44% of students attending. With air-conditioned spots available to sit and hang out, the gym had kids enjoying the night, too. I asked some of my fellow Ocean Township students for their thoughts about their experience at homecoming. One student replied, “The Homecoming Dance was overall fun. It was exhausting at times, but it was really fun. I’m glad that it was free, and I liked the spots that the cafeteria and the gym had to relax in. It was a nice party and everyone got along well, it was nice. I would go again,” another said, “In my opinion, Homecoming was a blast. First off, I’m a junior, and we have never done any of this in the three years I’ve been here. Stuff like this is necessary for our school to have more school spirit. I would 100% go to homecoming again!” With such positive feedback, I think it would be great if we continued to have dances and other social events that involved the entire student body.
