Testing Season is Here
by Spartan Spirit Staff
As we enter the beautiful month of May, we are encountered by new, exciting seasonal changes. The weather is warming; the flowers are blooming; school testing season begins. Some may feel like those three sentences are not parallel. However, one could argue that they are all inevitable and should be taken as such. Warmer weather and flowers blooming are seasonal changes that are part of Mother Nature; whereas, testing season is a part of the nature of education in our state and country right now. Whether a student is allergic to pollen or irritated by having to sit for testing, they must come up with coping strategies and power through.
The first and most important thing students can do is take the tests seriously. Like it or not, these tests do impact your academic journey in a number of ways. The narrative that these tests do not count for anything is false and harmful to students who believe it and end up clicking through whole exams in a matter of minutes. The time allotted for testing is not shortened if students finish quickly, so rushing through the questions has no positive benefit (not to mention the detriments of a very low score).
Remember that preparation and mindset are key. Approach each question with confidence, knowing that you've equipped yourself with the tools to tackle any challenge that comes your way. Keep a positive attitude throughout the test, and don't let a difficult question derail your focus. Remember, it's not just about getting the right answer, but also about effectively managing your time and staying calm under pressure. By employing these strategies and maintaining a resilient mindset, you'll not only conquer your tests but also build valuable skills that will serve you well in future academic endeavors.
As you close your test booklet (or more likely- Chromebook screen), take a moment to reflect on the journey you've undertaken. Standardized tests are just one aspect of your academic career, and while they may seem daunting, they are also an opportunity for growth and development. Regardless of the outcome, remember that your worth as a student and as an individual extends far beyond a test score. Celebrate your efforts and achievements, and continue to strive for excellence in all that you do. Your future is bright, and with perseverance, determination, and a dash of strategic savvy, there's nothing you can't achieve.
Now go outside, smell the flowers, and appreciate the new season!
