Persona 4 Revival: What to Expect
By Sabrina Goh
Persona 4 Revival is an upcoming remake of Persona 4 (2008), a story-driven, turn-based video game following a group of teenagers and their quest to solve a baffling murder case wreaking havoc on their small suburban town. Announced in June of 2025, this remake is riding the wave of ATLUS’s recent remake of Persona 3, titled Persona 3 Reload.
17 years since the original game was released on PlayStation 2, a remake of the beloved game has been a common topic of discussion among fans for quite some time. A previous “remake” of Persona 4, titled Persona 4 Golden, was released in 2014. However, the game was less of a remake as there was some additional content added and slight changes to the story. The main game stayed relatively unchanged. And so you may be wondering, “What to expect with Persona 4 Revival?”
Something to look forward to is improved quality in both art and gameplay. New and modernized graphics provide a smooth, streamlined look to a classic “retro” game. Imagine something with a similar look to ATLUS’s recent remake, Persona 3 Reload. Classic bolded colors that make each game really pop with fun accents in both gameplay and cutscenes.
While much has not been released about the details of the remake, it is not improbable to expect new character content and game mechanics. The older, bulkier combat system will likely be modernized—perhaps with the addition of the baton pass system from Persona 5 added to bolster gameplay.
The first—and at the time of writing this, only—trailer that has been released for the game was first showcased at the Xbox Games Showcase. A few landscapes, shots of the Inaba High School classroom, and pans of the Samegawa Floodplain were shown. A short clip of the protagonist running through the Inaba Shopping District gives a look into the gameplay with the promise of smoother animations. While not much information was revealed from this trailer, it definitely boosts excitement for this upcoming game.
When will it come out? Current information to expect Persona 4 Revival's release is mid to late 2026. The earliest to expect Persona 4 Revival is April 2026, while the latest, March 2027. To all Persona fans—and any incoming fans—now is the time to get excited for this long-awaited remake of one of the fan favorites of the Persona games.
