As soon as a new season comes on the horizon, fashion enthusiasts flood the internet with styles they believe will be trending or hope to see forthcoming. This can be anywhere from ordinary, like scrunchies, to over-the-top, like Gucci’s grass-stained jeans.
In this series, students of Ocean Township High School will be shown a photo of an upcoming fashion trend surfacing the internet and give their honest opinions on it.
The Rise of Sheer Clothing
Spring is less than two weeks away, and magazines are dropping new styles iteratively — giving people ways to spend their money. Vogue, an American monthly fashion and lifestyle magazine, stunned its followers with trends Vogue editors have adopted for spring 2023. One of which the editors are interested in is sheer clothing. Yes — the type of clothes you return instantly because you tried it on and noticed it was see-through. As interesting as it was to hear about a fashion editor’s interest in sheer-styled clothing, I was intrigued to hear what my fellow classmates thought about it.
When a student at Ocean was asked her opinions on the trending sheer clothing style, if they see themselves rocking this style in the spring, and what they rate it on a scale from 1-10, she shared:
“I think if it’s the velvety-type sheer that goes over tank tops, it would look good for outfits, but if it's the cheap, five-dollar type of sheer clothing you get and return immediately…I don’t want it. If it’s tacky, you’re gonna look tacky with it. I know Gucci is going to do a lot with it and I know I won’t like it. I think if you are going to wear the sheer style, then keep it simple and clean-looking; don’t bring it to a designer’s level of extra. Personally I would give it a 5/10 because it’s just an okay idea and I don’t see myself wearing it ever.”
