“Bird of Light”
by Gray Boudreau
The bird of light,
Take off on her flight.
Off to ventures unknown,
Where no other had flown.
Bird of light soared,
Long into the night.
She felt her wing dip
In a substance unknown.
Like a sickly disease,
The inky substance spread.
She did not feel this change,
This feeling growing within.
The bird of light continued on her way.
Soaring high,
Above the water.
But something was not right.
The bird of light couldn’t see her glow on her water’s reflection.
She soared down below for a better look.
The bird of light stood no more…
A bird of night soared evermore.
