This Thursday was the first Coffee House of the year and was a huge success, gaining an amazing turnout! For only three dollars in advance and five at the door, John McCrae students, staff, and parents were able to attend Coffee House where students sang, played the guitar, played the flute, and more! With baked goods up for sale and the knitting club selling their creations, there was something for everyone. Coffee house took place in the drama pit and was set up by the Music Council, they decorated the pit with curtains, lights, and cut up stars stuck along the stage. Tables were set up along the top and bottom of the drama pit, along with seating on the steps as well. With a full house waiting, the show started with singing and proceeded into a wide array of musical talents, ranging from freestyle beatboxing to the piano.
We spoke with one of the duos that performed, Ozzy and Moonzia, who played Threshold, by Sex Bomb-Omb. This was the second time that they had performed, the first being at last year’s Coffee House. Their song choice Threshold appears in the famous movie Scott Pilgrim v.s. the World, and was a great choice, adding a bit of rock to this event. Ozzy and Moonzia both sang and played the electric guitar. Leading up to the performance they practiced for a week straight to make sure it was perfect, they said they were happy with how their performance turned out. Though they were both a bit nervous, Ozzy made sure to stay pumped up with sugar to get rid of the stage fright. They agreed that it’s a super fun experience and can’t wait to do it again.
Coffee House’s variety in musical talents and treats is sure to continue to be a successful John McCrae tradition for years to come. It’s an opportunity for John McCrae’s students to showcase their abilities to their schoolmates and demonstrate to guests how much talent John McCrae has. If you missed out on this Coffee House this time, be sure to attend the next one, which is sure to be just as successful and entertaining as the last.
