Holocaust Education Month

November is Holocaust Education Month. This education month serves as an opportunity to educate OCDSB students, staff, and families about Holocaust history. This is also an opportunity to honour and remember the lives lost during the Holocaust.

We know that learning from our past is critical to shaping a better future.

About the Holocaust

What is the "holocaust"?

The Holocaust was the genocide of millions of Jews during World War II.

What is "genocide"?

A genocide is the deliberate killing a specific group of people. Genocide is one of the worst crimes against humanity.

World War II (WWII or WW2) was a global war from 1989-1945. During WWII, there were many genocides committed, making it the deadliest conflict in history. One of the largest genocides was the Holocaust. During the Holocaust, Nazi Germany and their collaborators killed about six million Jews across German-occupied Europe.

During Holocaust Education Month, we honour and remember the Jews who were murdered by the Nazis, and the countless other victims including the Roma and Sinti, people with disabilities, 2SLGBTQI+ people, Black people, Slavic people, political opponents, and Jehovah’s Witnesses, who suffered during the Holocaust.
