"I did co-op at Big Jump Entertainment, one of Ottawa’s animation studios. I worked as a student animator for about 7-8 hours a day, from Monday to Friday... I got to learn how to use the animation software Toon Boom and also greatly improved my drawing skills. Everyone in the studio was so friendly and willing to help me learn more about animation... It was so great to see what it would be like to work in animation in the future. I sent my portfolio and got accepted into Algonquin College’s Animation program. I am looking forward to it after graduation!"
"I completed my co-op during the summer after grade 11, which for me seemed like a perfect time because it allowed me to fill up my summer with doing a job I really liked and was very interested in, and I didn’t have to worry about it interfering with my grade 12 classes...I was tasked with creating social media post ‘templates’ for a company Digitera was developing. Because I finished this quickly I was asked to work on designing the interface for an app he was developing. I also got to work with two coders who were both very nice and I got to learn a bit about what coding was like which was super cool! This type of collaboration happened a lot in the workplace as we had to collaborate with different groups."
"To any future SHSM students, don’t be afraid to try new things. If I hadn’t given graphic design a shot, it would have taken me much longer to discover how I feel about it. Trying new things is how you discover what’s right for you."
