Acting On Mental Health

You’re not alone; according to certified listeners.org, more than 6.7 million Canadians suffer from mental health disorders. Sadly, many people don’t get help early on and normally end up using drugs or alcohol as a way to cope; some even end up on the street or in the hospital. Thankfully, we live in a world where we can get the help we need online; there are many hotlines and websites that can set you up with free counseling to get on top of your problem before it gets worse. In addition, apps like I’m sober, Calm, or Headspace can help with your breathing techniques or to help you stay sober. Or if you just need someone to talk to about your problems, there are hotlines and websites that have a system where you can talk to someone who is there for you. If you don’t want to call a hotline, there are also text options like the Telus crisis text line 741-741 or Bell Let’s Talk where you can click the link on the website and it will set you up with someone to help you with your problems. No one should feel embarrassed or ashamed to ask for help. “It’s ok not to be ok”. We here at JMSS care about you and your health! Take care of yourself. Get good sleep. Stay active. Eat well. Drink plenty of water, try a new hobby or activity like art, yoga or a walk in many local nature trails; be mindful and remember as mentioned above “You are not alone.”
