On Thursday, February 24th in the John McCrae library after school at 3:20 pm, author David. A Robertson will be having a virtual talk about the books he has published. Students will be able to come in, ask questions, learn something new, and hopefully come out with a new book they plan on reading.

David A. Robertson is an Indigenous author who is a member of Norway House Cree Nation and currently lives in Winnipeg. He has written books such as The Misewa Saga, Blackwater, Will I See, and many more. His books revolve around Indigenous culture, characters, myths and legends. His books have received much praise for the vibrant and engaging stories

The Barren Grounds, which is the first book of The Misewa Saga, follows two young Indigenous children named Morgan and Eli who have been brought together in a foster home in Winnipeg. Feeling alone and disconnected from their roots and culture, they find a portal that opens to another reality in the attic of their house, which brings them to frozen arctic grounds. They meet Ochek, a hunter who is trying to save his starving community, Misewa. Morgan and Eli learn to survive under his leadership, but the need for food becomes more desperate, and the two have to eventually embark on a dangerous journey in order to save Misewa.

Will I See is about a teenage girl named May, who collects keepsakes around her city and makes them into a necklace with her kookum. The necklace opens a world of danger and fantasy, while May struggles with a harsh and relentless reality. The story highlights the tragedy of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, and is an emotional and profound read.
