“oh the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful…”.

That was the last song I heard before I died. Probably a morbid way to start the story off huh? Well, the way my life ended wasn’t all that great either. I had been driving uptown to spend my winter break in the snow; I always loved snow…
The town I lived in didn’t get much snow this year and I didn’t have any family to visit so I packed my things and started my journey to the mountains. I had my favourite Christmas songs on and went to my local coffee shop, they had just launched their new line of holiday drinks and I wanted to try their new gingerbread latte (It was disgusting by the way) I almost spat it out, but if I did by car would’ve smelt like gingerbread the entire drive which would remind me of the terror the latte had bestowed on my taste buds.
I continued on the empty road, I was a couple of hours into my Christmas playlist when the storm hit. It started out fine, I could still see at least 7 ft ahead of me. I was only another few hours away so stopping would be pointless. I continued my drive when all of a sudden my radio turned the music off and decided to put out a weather warning.
“ALERT: Severe weather warning for White Bridge until December 21st, 2022. We will send updates as conditions develop. Please call this number [911] for assistance or check local media. Please take shelter in the nearest sheltered area, you are advised to stay clear of roads as weather conditions will worsen, causing vehicles to slide off transit ways.” Great. I was one hour away from my dream getaway with nobody else nearby and a snowstorm is heading directly my way. There was no shelter for miles. I could either keep going or turn back. Of course, the only logical reason was to keep going, seeing as turning around would take another 5 hours.
I continued on the now white road, I had slid a bit on patches of ice but nothing too extreme. I was now 30 minutes away, the air started to get colder in my car, the air burning my airways with every breath. It felt like I was inhaling icicles. My favourite Christmas song began to play. “Let it Snow -Frank Sinatra” I turned the music up and continued driving.
*CRASH*
My car had slid off the road.
I couldn’t even see 3 inches in front of me, I had no service and I knew I was going to die. The crash had busted my radio so the song was on a loop. At least I was gonna die with my favourite song playing in the background right? The song I looked forward to listening to every winter because of the festivity of it all. It had been 7 minutes now, my car wouldn’t start so I was stuck in a freezing car. The snow had already frozen over so there was no way out of the car. I was gonna die. I started to warm up, that’s good, right?
Wrong. I died shortly after that. I’m not sure how long my body has been there. I’ve lost track of time. The moral of this story is to always check the weather where you’re going. The weather outside can be frightful, and you won’t always have a delightful fire to warm up next to.
