Welcome to the ECMS Music Program 2019/20!
Please go to your Grade 6, 7 or 8 music page on this site in order to see important messages and posted music activities for at home learning during the Covid-19 crisis. Click the link under my name for a very useful online tuner and metronome.
All students are welcome to send me video clips of your practicing for ongoing feedback and tips.
ECMS MUSIC CHALLENGE: Compose your own "Isolation Blues" song with lyrics. You can choose a hip-hop/rap style of vocals or melodic vocals, but make sure you include appropriate lyrics! This is a challenge and winner gets a prize! Do it on your own, or with your friends using a video platform.

IMPORTANT NOTE: ALL EXTRACURRICULAR BAND ACTIVITIES ARE CANCELLED FOR THE 2020/2021 SCHOOL YEAR UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE DUE TO COVIDS.
The Gr 6 Junior Band members are looking forward to graduating into Senior Band. Sheet music will be placed in the music nook soon and rehearsals for Concert Band will begin in October. Our incoming Gr 6 students had a chance to hear both 2018/19 Jr and Sr bands perform at Glen O and Forest Valley at the beginning of June 2019. The Honk and Blow evening at ECMS was also a great success and allowed our incoming students to test out various concert band instruments.
I look forward to another great year in the music program. The first two weeks are dedicated to assigning instruments to all of our beginners and also to welcome back the Gr 7 and 8 students into the music classroom and band program. I also look forward to meeting new parents/families at the Meet the Teacher BBQ in September. New this year, I will be inviting Gr 6 parents into the classroom to volunteer. This will offer a great opportunity to experience the instrumental music classroom 'live' and to gain knowledge of instrument technique and practice expectations in order to progress with success in the music program.
If you wish to be placed on the volunteer calendar, please call the school and leave a voicemail, or email ShannonL.Smith@ocdsb.ca
Please see the QUESTIONS box below to contact Ms. Shannon directly if you have any concerns or questions regarding your child's progress or participation in either the music classroom or the Concert Band Program. Ms. Shannon can also be reached by calling the school and leaving a voicemail.
