Grade 12 English University (ENG4U)

Prerequisite: Success in NBE3U (ENG3U)

This course prepares students for University, College, or the workplace.

This course builds on the development of critical and creative thinking, communication, and media analyis/production skills students require for academic and daily life. In this course students analysize both written and media texts by a variety of authors and co-construct their understanding of these texts through teacher and student lead seminar discussions. Students also communicate their ideas and beliefs through academic and informal writing tasks, presentations, and creative products. Students also develop an academic vocubulary to suit a variety of audiences.

Sample tasks include: a literary essay, seminar discussions, analysis of a documentary, satirical writing, creative poem or media product

Grade 12 English College (ENG4C)

Prerequisite: Success in NBE3C or NBE3U

This course prepares students for College, Apprenticeship or the workplace.

This course extends a range of skills: critical thinking, oral communication, creative and informational writing, and media literacy. These skills are important for future student success in their post-secondary, workplace and daily lives.

Students will focus on identifying and communicating both personal and societal values important to them as individuals. This focus supports students towards identifying future academic, career, and personal goals. Students will have opportunities to explore, interpret, and analyze a variety of both print and media texts: fictional texts, informational texts, video and documentary texts are some examples.

Sample tasks include: creative writing, media products, oral presentations, informed opinion research projects, and documentary analysis.
