Welcome to A.Y.J. Guidance

What does the Guidance Department do?

Guidance staff assist students and their families with pathways planning, academic support and personal concerns. Each student at AYJ is assigned a Guidance Counsellor according to their surname:

Mrs. Chevalier, our Guidance Services Assistant, is available to answer your questions regarding almost anything, including transcripts and awards/scholarships: beth.chevalier@ocdsb.ca, 613-836-2527 ext 2013

Grade 9 Transitions: Grade 9 students are supported before and during their grade 9 year by students and staff in the J-Crew Program.

Students in need of additional academic support may receive it from Student Success or Special Education (by referral). Please contact your Guidance Counsellor.

Additional Support Available by Referral:

Students and their families may also be supported at school by one of our itinerant support staff (by referral through Guidance Counsellor or School Administrator):

  • Psychological Consultant

  • Education Assistant for behaviour support

  • Social Worker

  • Rideauwood Addictions Counsellor

How to Consult with Guidance Staff

The guidance office is closed to limit contacts, but the guidance staff are here to assist you!!!

Please check your OCDSB email for a response from us within a few days. September is a particularly busy month, so please be patient!!

Want to make a course change?

If you are requesting a course change in September 2020, please note that due to limited flexibility in the new timetable, and to minimize movement between cohorts, our usual process is not possible.

Only exceptional circumstances that meet one or more of the following criteria will be considered:

-Level change

-Missing post-secondary prerequisite or graduation requirement (Gr. 11 and 12 only)

-Improperly sequenced courses

-Course scheduled that has already been completed (ex. in Summer School)

Students may submit a "special timetable request" using the link: Guidance Consultation Request Form. Course change requests must be made by Sunday September 13th.

These requests will be sorted and addressed according to priority.

Guidance Counsellors will attempt to fulfill requests that meet the above criteria and respond by email to students and parent/guardian. If the change meets the criteria above and is possible, the email response will include a copy of the new schedule .

Students will be expected to follow their current timetable until a new one is issued.

Who are the guidance staff?
