What does the Guidance Department do?
Guidance staff assist students and their families with pathways planning, academic support and personal concerns. Each student at AYJ is assigned a Guidance Counsellor according to their surname:

Grade 9 Transitions: Grade 9 students are supported before and during their grade 9 year by students and staff in the J-Crew Program.
Students in need of additional academic support may receive it from Student Success or Special Education (by referral). Please contact your Guidance Counsellor.
Additional Support Available by Referral:
Students and their families may also be supported at school by one of our itinerant support staff (by referral through Guidance Counsellor or School Administrator):

Guidance appointments will be virtual until further notice, but the guidance staff are here to assist you!!!
- Do you wish to request a course change? Please read the fine print and complete the form at the bottom of this page. Check your OCDSB email for a response from us within a few days. September is a particularly busy month, so please be patient!!
Please note that only exceptional circumstances that meet one or more of the following criteria will be considered:
-Level change
-Missing post-secondary prerequisite or graduation requirement (Gr. 11 and 12 only)
-Improperly sequenced courses
-Course scheduled that has already been completed (ex. in Summer School)
Course change requests must be made by Sunday September 19th.
Requests will be sorted and addressed according to priority.
Guidance Counsellors will attempt to fulfill requests that meet the above criteria and respond by email to student and parent/guardian. If the change meets the criteria above and the requested course is available, the email response will include a copy of the new schedule .
Students will be expected to follow their current timetable until a new one is issued
