Here are some upcoming events in the area that may be of interest to you and your family.

On Thursday, February 6, 6:00 pm, there is a Scheduling Information Night at LMS for current 8th grade students. The Counselors from Oberlin High School will be present to explain the process.

Oberlin City Schools is hosting a Coffee Chat with community members and administrators on February 20, 2020, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at the Oberlin Depot, 240 South Main Street. There will be babysitting available for students in grades 1-5. https://www.oberlinschools.net/our-district/coffee-chat

On February 23, Cleveland Museum of Natural History is hosting a Sensory Friendly Sunday at 9:30am, before regular hours. https://www.cmnh.org/sensoryfriendly

Youth Opportunities Unlimited and Oberlin High School is sponsoring a Career Fair on Thursday, March 12 from 1:00-3:00 at OHS. High School students will have the opportunity to learn about different career paths from the college representatives and employers that will be present. The Special Olympics will be held on Friday, May 8 at Ely Stadium in Elyria. We will take any of our Oberlin students with disabilities to the event that would be interested in participating. We are fortunate that Mrs. Olszowy, SLP, and Intervention Specialist, Amanda Kochmit, are coordinating this event for us. Youngsters will participate in a Field Day. Older students can participate in a variety of events and the teachers will work with students on time trials for events that interest them. If your Eastwood or Prospect student wants to participate, contact Mrs. Olszowy golszowy@oberlinschools.net Langston and OHS students can contact Mrs. Kochmit at akochmit@oberlinshcools.net. Students will need an updated physical to compete.

The Oberlin City Schools Special Education Department is conducting a survey of all families participating in an annual IEP meeting during the months of January, February and March. You will receive an email approximately one week after your IEP meeting. We are looking for your feedback to help us reflect on and improve our practices.

Lorain County is offering free tax preparation for persons with simple filings that made less than $60,000 last year. Call 2-1-1 for more information or visit http://loraincountyfreetaxprep.org/locations/ to search for locations. It is best to call for an appointment, but walk-ins are welcome.
