Daehyun (Daniel) Ahn (Graduate of Chemistry) was announced as the regional winner of the Undergraduate Global Award for his capstone research, Extending pH-Resistant, Perrhenate-Sensitive Hydrazone [2] Catenate Into Supramolecular Gel. Daniel is now pursuing a postgraduate degree at UC Berkeley.
Rayyan Al Maazmi (Class of 2026 Biomedical Engineering major with a minor in Legal Studies) was selected as the second Al Masaood Scholar. This prestigious scholarship is generously supported by His Excellency Masaood Ahmed Al Masaood, Chairman of the Al Masaood Group. It provides tuition assistance over two academic years for exceptional students from the UAE. Rayyan was awarded this honor due to his exemplary academic achievements, leadership in campus organizations, and impressive entrepreneurial and athletic pursuits.
Valentin Josan (Graduate of Business and Economics) was announced as the regional winner of the Undergraduate Global Award for his capstone research When Push Comes to Shove: Studying the Effect of Climate Risk Perception on Corporate Risk Management Objectives. Valentin’s capstone was supervised by Samreen Malik (Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs; Associate Professor of Economics).
Faculty and staff making connections at the Fall Mixer.
The Core hosted its faculty orientation on September 4, welcoming approximately 40 new and veteran faculty at the new Faculty Hub in the NYUAD Library. Faculty learned what goes into developing and offering a Core course and how to support students across the disciplines. It also hosted its Fall Mixer on September 26, welcoming 50 attendees across the divisions. Faculty also connected on their shared joys and challenges of teaching in the Core while having the opportunity to interact with academic and administrative staff members.
The Office of Global Education welcomed 105 visiting students from NYU New York and NYU Shanghai for the fall 2024 semester. The students from New York included those from the Tandon School of Engineering, Gallatin School of Individualized Study, College of Arts and Science, Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, as well as the School of Professional Studies, Stern School of Business, and Tisch School of the Arts. The students were featured in a Khaleej Times article highlighting their engagement with Abu Dhabi’s rich traditions and vibrant arts scene.
Some 358 NYUAD students are studying abroad this fall at the NYU campuses in Buenos Aires, Florence, London, Madrid, New York, Paris, Prague, Shanghai, Sydney, and Washington, DC, as well as at our partner universities Trinity College (Ireland) and KAIST (South Korea).
The Office of Social Responsibility had a successful fall “English in the Workplace” series, with 150 community members participating in Arabic and International English Language Testing System preparation courses.
Panel discussion on “Student Practices with Generative AI”.
The Hilary Ballon Center for Teaching and Learning hosted the panel discussion Student Practices with Generative AI, in which Hallelujah Abe (Economics), Alya Al Zaabi (SRPP, Minors in Peace Studies and Environmental Studies), Dilnaz Amantayeva (Economics), Raissa Dushime (Computer Science), Ryan Opande (Computer Science), Zareth Ramos (SRPP), Anna Rygielska (Tamayyuz Research Fellow), and Mira Schlotter (Music/Art History) spoke. The event provided a collaborative exchange of ideas between faculty and students, where students shared their experience using ChatGPT and explained how they use the tool to close learning gaps.
