Chapter History
SHRM has approved the charters of approximately 200 active student chapters for affiliation, including NYIT-SHRM. Student chapters embody the strong working relationship between SHRM and students who are studying Human Resource Management, and who represent the future of the HR profession. Currently, SHRM has some 20,000 student members across the country.
The NYIT-SHRM Chapter was founded in 2000 by Dr Richard Dibble, who also founded the HR academic department at NYIT some twenty years earlier. Dr Dibble set the pace for the chapter’s many successes over the years. Dr Dibble was the Chapter’s Advisor through 2010, and co-Advisor 2010-2011. He continues to be closely involved as a champion for the Chapter and a highly-respected connection to alumni and key members of the HR profession for networking purposes and professional enrichment events. The Chapter nominated him as SHRM Advisor of the Year in 2011, and recognizes his considerable ongoing support and contributions each year at the Chapter’s Dessert Party. Dr Dibble also established the Dr Richard E. Dibble Scholarship fund for HR students.
Prof William Ninehan became co-advisor in 2010, and he has been the Chapter’s Advisor since 2011.
Chapter operations are the responsibility of the Chapter’s officers, who are NYIT-SHRM members, and who have been elected by fellow members.
